Today we release Bethany, the second song from my new LP Always Been. This was the first song I wrote that brought me into the world of this album. It’s the first song I showed producer Adam Granduciel when we talked about making a record. It’s the first song we recorded. It’s the first song on the album, which feels right spiritually. It concerns a guy who became a clergyperson without having actual faith and the aftermath of his fall from grace. He’s living in his parents’ beach house in the offseason, trying to figure out what comes next.
This one was a favorite of mine being played completely stripped down & previewed acoustic on the “This is what it looks like” shows… but mannn this song fully fleshed out is so lush & beautiful! Wow 🙏🏻💕
Craig, I've been a huge fan of your work through the years, from THS to your solo career. What a joy that you are still finding the freedom to create work like this. Its fresh, interesting and inspiring. Discovering it this afternoon was a real treat, and I cant wait to hear the album. Thanks for sharing this one early, it sets up the anticipation for the record so well. Best wishes from Western Australia!
Craig, "Bethany" is an incredible piece of work... Pairing "Harrisburg to Bethany" in a song about faith and loss and maybe redemption? Brilliant. This song has me in tears. So. Good!
