Bethany

3

Today we release Bethany, the second song from my new LP Always Been. This was the first song I wrote that brought me into the world of this album. It’s the first song I showed producer Adam Granduciel when we talked about making a record. It’s the first song we recorded. It’s the first song on the album, which feels right spiritually. It concerns a guy who became a clergyperson without having actual faith and the aftermath of his fall from grace. He’s living in his parents’ beach house in the offseason, trying to figure out what comes next.

I really love this song and the musical performances from Adam and his The War on Drugs bandmates: Dave Hartley, Antony LaMarca, and Robbie Bennett. And how about that guitar solo? Gives me chills, tbh. Mixed by the amazing Jon Low. Reminder that you can now pre-order Always Been and the companion book Lousy With Ghosts. The record comes out April 4 on Tamarac Recordings/Thirty Tigers, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
